Stepping Stones or Obstacles

Updated: Jan 27, 2020

We all dream of an easier life. We make plans. We have goals.

Every so often though things don't go to plan. I touched on this just before Christmas in the post When Things Don't Go To Plan...read it here. In this blog I'd like to go a little bit deeper into this subject.

Rather than think of all the bad stuff that's happened try and understand the lesson that is there to be learnt. Very often the same thing happens to you over and over again. When this occurs it is wise to start looking at what you need to learn to prevent it happening once more. This can take a lot of courage and inner searching...or a life coach! But it is important to do this.

Say things have been going well. You've put things in place to achieve something. Everything is going smoothly then suddenly things start going wrong. I believe that this can happen for a number of reasons. Fisrtly it's a way of testing whether a) it's what you really want and b) whether you are truly ready for it to happen. Secondly it could be that you need to do some adjustments in your life. Thirdly, the things going well have been a taster of what is yet to come and forging forward when things go a little awry is a good way of proving to yourself (and other people if you must) that you're determined to get the desired outcome.

It's very easy to see every bad thing that happens to prevent you getting where you want as an obstacle. I prefer to think of it as a stepping stone. That is to say it's a way of moving forward, but you must watch your step making sure that it's firm and stable. In otherwords, what is it that's preventing you from getting where you want? Don't look at the problem...work on a solution - carefully!

It's all to do with postive mental attitude (what a cliche!) but it really does work. I'll be talking about this in my next blog but for now see things as stepping stones not obstacles.

If you can't get through it, go round it.

If you can't go round it, go over it.

If you can't get over it, go under it.

If you can't get under it find a different path.

If there's not a different path ask yourself if this is really what you should be doing.
